Description of Program and Relief
Workers’ Compensation
Under Hawaii’s existing Workers’ Compensation program, workers may be eligible for payments to cover absences caused by COVID-19 illness or quarantine which results from work or working conditions.

Dates Available
Effective immediately, subject to a 3-day waiting period
Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
As a general matter, most full-time and part-time employees who suffer from any injury or disease as a result of work or working conditions are covered (e.g., healthcare workers who contract COVID-19 from an infected patient). The following types of employment are excluded from Workers’ Compensation:

Volunteers for a religious, charitable, educational, or nonprofit organization

University students who work in exchange for board, lodging, or tuition

Clergy
-
Domestic workers earning less than $225 per quarter

Real estate brokers working on commission
Application Deadlines (If Applicable)
Any claim must be filed within 2 years of the employee learning of the injury and within 5 years of the accident or occurrence that caused the injury.
