In celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Paul, Weiss hosted a firmwide conversation with Qian Julie Wang, author of bestselling memoir, Beautiful Country. Litigation associate Maia Usui, an associate leader of the firm’s Asian-Pacific Lawyers Network, moderated the virtual conversation which traced Qian Julie’s experience as an undocumented child arriving in America, through her current role as a civil rights litigator working on issues affecting marginalized communities. Qian Julie touched on issues of identity, sense of belonging, and the first-generation experience.
Qian Julie discussed the meaning behind the title of her book and the designation of America as a “Beautiful Country.” The audience was encouraged to remain hopeful as they continue to seek their own versions of the “American Dream.”
