As part of the D.C. Diversity Speakers Series, Paul, Weiss’s Washington, D.C. office hosted a presentation by Lydia X. Z. Brown, a renowned disability justice advocate, organizer, educator and attorney. Lydia is chair of the ABA Civil Rights and Social Justice Section’s Disability Rights Committee, and serves on the boards of organizations including the Transgender Law Center, the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy and the Vera Institute for Justice.
Exploring concepts of ableism and the difference between disability rights and disability justice work, Lydia shared theories and strategies from their work advocating for disabled people living at the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, faith, language and nation.
The D.C. Diversity Speakers Series, a joint initiative of the D.C. Diversity Committee and the D.C. Prism Network, presents a wide range of viewpoints on important topics in diversity, equity and inclusion.
