California, the state at the leading edge of climate regulation nationally, recently amended two state laws known together as the California Climate Accountability Package, under which U.S. companies that satisfy monetary thresholds and do business in the state will be required to disclose their direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks. We offer an overview of the scope, requirements and key reporting obligations of the two amended state laws —the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (CCDAA) and Climate-Related Financial Risk Act (CRFRA)—as well as the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures Act.
