Concurrences recently shortlisted articles written by Paul, Weiss lawyers as some of last year’s best business articles in two categories, part of the publication’s annual Antitrust Writing Awards. Shortlisted as best of the intellectual property category, “European Commission Issues First Fine for Abusive Patent Game-Playing and Disparagement,” co-authored by antitrust partner Henrik Morch and associates Alexandra Hackney, Charlotte Mann and Gus Lane, discusses the Commission’s October 2024 decision to fine pharmaceutical company Teva for allegedly abusive practices relating to its multiple sclerosis medicine Copaxone, the culmination of five years of Commission investigation. Shortlisted in the Europe category, “Mind the Gap: ECJ Judgment Determines European Commission Cannot Review Deals Below Member State Merger Control Thresholds,” co-authored by antitrust partners Nicole Kar, Rich Pepper and Henrik Morch, counsel Lauren O’Brien, associates Andrea Chong and William Feerick, and legal consultant Timothy Noelanders, discusses the impact of the Illumina judgment on the Commission’s ability to review transactions below European Union member state merger control thresholds.
