Description of Program and Relief
Unemployment Insurance (Employees)
Provides temporary relief for workers who have been laid off from their jobs.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
To be eligible for unemployment insurance, you must: (i) have worked for an employer who is liable under the North Dakota Unemployment Insurance program; (ii) have earned at least a minimum amount of wages before you were unemployed; (iii) have been unemployed through no fault of your own; and (iv) currently be able and available for work (note the requirement to actively be seeking work has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
Executive Order 2020-08 suspended a number of unemployment insurance requirements for individuals whose unemployment is related to COVID-19 including:

Requirement to actively seek work.

Requirement to register for work.

Requirement to requalify for unemployment benefits for the week in which an individual has left the individual’s most recent employment voluntarily or without good cause attributable to the employer.

Requirement to requalify for unemployment benefits for the week in which the individual has been discharged for misconduct in connection with an individual’s most recent employment.

Executive Order 2020-18 temporarily suspended the one week waiting period for an individual whose unemployment occurred during the period of the COVID-19 emergency declaration, who filed a claim during or after the week ending on March 14, 2020.
