Description of Program and Relief

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

TANF provides financial assistance to low-income families with children under the age of 18, or under the age of 19 if the child attending high school and is expected to graduate before the age of 19. Cash benefits are provided for the household’s children for clothing, utilities, and other services. TANF predates COVID-19, and can be used by eligible participants at this time.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Children are eligible if under the age of 18, or if under the age of 19 and attending high school and are expected to graduate before the age of 19. Recipients of TANF benefits are required to participate in employment and training activities with the Michigan Work Assistance Program. Other eligibility requirements can be accessed here.
