Description of Program and Relief

Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC)

Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC) is a cash benefit for families with children under 18, including teen parents. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below). The amount of cash benefit will depend on the applicant’s family size, household income, and family assets. Expecting parents can apply for TAFDC if the child is due in less than 4 months.

To qualify for TAFDC benefits, the family must live in Massachusetts, include a U.S. citizen or person with certain legal noncitizen status, and meet certain income and asset limits.
