Description of Program and Relief
Paid Sick Leave Program for State Employees
Under Maine’s existing paid sick leave program, state employees are eligible for paid sick time accrual up to 120 days.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
Full-time employees accrue paid sick time at a rate of 8 hours for each completed month of service. Part-time employees accrue paid sick time prorated in prorated to their authorized part-time hours. Intermittent employees do not accrue paid sick time until the completion of 1,040 hours of actual work, following which they accrue sick time for each 173 hours of actual work. Non-state employees serving in an acting capacity assignment (temporary appointment for classified or unclassified service) begin accruing paid sick time after 90 days of continuous service.
Employees should discuss leave requests with their employers.
