Description of Program and Relief
Unemployment Insurance Claims
The Governor of Iowa announced that workers affected by COVID-19 due to lay-offs, self-isolation, caring for family members, or due to illnesses related to COVID-19 may apply for unemployment benefits through the Iowa Workforce Development (“IWD”). The work search requirement is also being waived.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
To be eligible for unemployment benefits the applicant must be unemployed, have earned wages in covered employment (an employer that is required to report wages and pay Unemployment Insurance) of at least $1,660 in one quarter and at least $830 in a different quarter within the program year period (currently July 7 , 2019–July 4, 2020), and have total base period wages of at least 1.25 times the wages earned in the highest base period quarter. The base period is a four quarter time frame covering the first four quarters of the last five completed calendar quarters at the time an initial unemployment insurance claim is filed.
