Description of Program and Relief
Arts for Illinois Relief Fund for Artists and Arts Organizations
In light of COVID-19, the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago, in partnership with philanthropic organizations, are offering grants to individual artists and arts organizations based in Illinois. Individual artists can apply for $1,500 unrestricted, one-time grants through a lottery system. Arts organizations can apply for unrestricted grants ranging from $8,000 to $30,000, based on organizational budget and the extent of lost revenue and non-recoverable-expenses incurred due to COVID-19.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
Individual artists may be eligible if:

Illinois is the artist’s home base and geographic focus;
-
The artist is legally eligible for employment in the U.S.;
-
The artist is practicing, and can provide examples of work made within the last two years;
-
The artist is at least 18 years of age;
-
The artist is not currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program, and, if pursuing a Ph.D., has completed the required coursework;
-
The artist is experiencing financial loss and/or hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
-
The artist works in one of the following disciplines: dance, film & media arts, interdisciplinary, literary arts, music, teaching arts, theater, or visual arts/design.
Arts organizations may be eligible if:

The organization operates in and serves Illinois; and
-
The organization holds 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Application Deadlines (If Applicable)
Individuals who applied in the first two rounds of funding may be selected for a grant in the third round, new applications are not currently being accepted.
