Description of Program and Relief

‘Great Plates Delivered’ Meal Delivery Initiative to Support Seniors and Local Restaurants

Riverside County is participating in California’s ‘Great Plates Delivered’ initiative to provide three free home-delivered meals from local restaurants to qualifying seniors. Seniors can apply to participate in the program here.

This initiative also aims to stimulate the economy by bringing employees back to work from the restaurant, hospitality, and transportation industries. To that end, the County is seeking restaurants in San Jacinto, Hemet, Perris, Banning, Beaumont and surrounding areas to participate in the Great Plates Delivered program. The County will provide up to $66 for eligible restaurants. ($16 for breakfast, $17 for lunch, $28 for dinner and $5 for incidentals). The meals provided by the restaurants should be nutritious. Restaurants should also be able to cater to individual dietary needs. Lunch and dinner must contain a fresh fruit or vegetable. If a drink is included in the meal, it must be fewer than 24 calories grams per every 8 ounces and made of 100 percent fruit juice. Restaurants are encouraged to use their own delivery service in order to keep more of the program funds in-house and must perform background checks of delivery drivers at their own expense.
