Jennifer Songer is a partner in the Corporate Department and a member of the firm’s Investment Funds Group. She regularly represents many of the industry’s largest asset managers on a wide range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters. Jennifer primarily advises private equity, credit and other alternative asset managers on their regulatory and compliance obligations.
Prior to joining Paul, Weiss, Jennifer worked at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), most recently as Policy Counsel to the Chair. In that role, she oversaw the rulemaking and other initiatives of the Division of Investment Management and served as legal and policy adviser to the Chair on Investment Management related issues. Before that, she served as Branch Chief of the Private Funds Branch of the Investment Adviser Regulation Office in the SEC’s Division of Investment Management. In that role, Jennifer led several rulemaking initiatives and served as a key adviser on all private fund-related projects and priorities across the SEC. She also worked closely with the Division of Examinations and the Division of Enforcement on interpretative matters regarding the application of the securities laws to all types of investment advisers. As a former regulator, Jennifer offers unparalleled insight into the SEC, including its policies, procedures and operations.
Jennifer began her career in private practice, where she advised clients on the structuring, formation, and private offering requirements of private funds and counseled investment advisers on regulatory matters.
