Pro Bono Clients Fleeing Persecution in Honduras Achieve Asylum Victory
- Client News
- March 9, 2017
Paul, Weiss obtained asylum for our pro bono clients, a Honduran family, in the New York City Immigration Court. The family, a mother and her two teenage sons, fled Honduras after a gang targeted the boys for recruitment and retaliated against the mother after the boys refused to join the gang. The immigration judge granted the mother asylum because she was targeted for being an immediate family member of the sons, and both boys received derivative asylum status.
Paul, Weiss partnered with Human Rights First on this matter. The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Daniella Schmidt, Jon Bodansky, Elizabeth Grossman, Jordana Haviv and Gregg Marmaro; corporate associate Ebonee Tinker. Litigation partner Liza Velazquez supervised this matter.
