Pro Bono Client Achieves Asylum Victory
- Client News
- February 15, 2017
Paul, Weiss obtained asylum for our pro bono client, a 42-year-old Russian woman seeking legal status primarily on the basis of discrimination on account of her sexual orientation. Our client fled Russia in 2015 and sought asylum in the U.S. after decades of physical violence and intimidation. She also feared retaliation by the Russian government because of her association with her ex-wife, a prominent Russian journalist, LGBTQ activist and critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Oleg Shik and Priyanka Timblo. Litigation partner Liza Velazquez supervised this matter.
