Paul, Weiss Secures Victory for Pro Bono Veteran Client
- Client News
- March 8, 2022
Paul, Weiss secured a victory for an Army veteran in front of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. Our team helped the client to obtain a 40% disability rating for a back condition that originated during his Army service in Korea. Assigned disability ratings are intended to reflect the severity of service-connected conditions and determine compensation for those injuries. Paul, Weiss partnered with the nonprofit The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, which finds legal assistance for unrepresented veterans in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (Veterans Court).
After the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) agreed to a partial remand to settle the Veterans Court claims and send the claims back down to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, Paul, Weiss submitted an application under the Equal Access to Justice Act and obtained over $6,500 in legal fees, which Paul, Weiss donated to the Veterans Consortium to help future veterans. Paul, Weiss then aided our client in obtaining the 40% rating for his back disability. Additional claims remain ongoing.
The Paul, Weiss team is led by litigation associate Tanya Manno and supervised by litigation counsel Peter Jaffe.
