Paul, Weiss Secures Trial Victory for Pro Bono Client in Child Neglect Case
- Client News
- March 11, 2021
Paul, Weiss and co-counsel The Bronx Defenders secured the voluntary withdrawal of a child neglect petition brought by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) against a pro bono client whose child was wrongly taken away from him.
In 2019, ACS filed a neglect petition against our client in Bronx Family Court alleging that he gave the child’s mother money during her pregnancy knowing that she might use the money, in part, to buy drugs. On the seventh day of trial, in the middle of cross examination of ACS’s sole witness, ACS voluntarily dropped all charges and agreed to our client’s request to grant custody to his sister with liberal and unsupervised visitation rights.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Amanda Weingarten, Robyn Bernstein and Timothy Beavers. Litigation partner Audra Soloway supervised the matter.
