Paul, Weiss Provides Counsel to Domestic Violence Victims in COVID-19 Pandemic
- Client News
- August 19, 2020
Paul, Weiss, in collaboration with Sanctuary for Families, is providing pro bono counsel to domestic violence victims seeking orders of protection from their abusers. Since April, the Paul, Weiss team has assisted a total of 21 domestic violence victims with obtaining orders of protection and an additional four domestic violence victims with preparing family offense petitions in the event they later decide to seek orders of protection.
The firm is offering remote counsel through Sanctuary for Families’ recently-launched Virtual Courtroom Advocates Project (VCAP), a modification of the Courtroom Advocates Project (CAP). Because many victims have been forced to shelter in place with their abusers during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a heightened need to assist these victims.
The Paul, Weiss team includes litigation counsel Amy Barton and Michelle Parikh, associates Meredith Arfa, Elana Beale, Alison Benedon, Jeremy Benjamin, Jennifer Garrett and Edward Robinson, and pro bono counsel Emily Goldberg. Litigation partner Claudia Hammerman supervises the project.
