Paul, Weiss Obtains Victory for Pro Bono Client in VOLS Unemployment Insurance Case
On September 22, Paul, Weiss obtained a victory in an unemployment insurance case with its pro bono partner Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS). As a participant in the VOLS unemployment insurance advocacy project, the firm represents clients who have been denied unemployment insurance benefits by the New York State Department of Labor. In a written opinion issued shortly after the hearing, the administrative law judge (ALJ) reversed the determination of the Department of Labor, holding that claimant's actions did not constitute misconduct and that our client was entitled to receive unemployment benefits.
The Paul, Weiss team included associate Erin White, who conducted the examination and argued the case before the ALJ at the hearing. Erin worked closely with litigation partner Walter Ricciardi and summer associate Jayme Herschkopf.
