Paul Weiss Obtains Victory for Pro Bono Client in Unemployment Insurance Case
On December 21, Paul, Weiss, working with the firm's pro bono partner Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) and their Unemployment Insurance Advocacy Project, obtained a victory in an unemployment insurance case.
The Department of Labor had determined that our client voluntarily separated from employment without good cause and made a willful misrepresentation to obtain benefits, which resulted in an overpayment. In a written opinion, the administrative law judge reversed all of the determinations of the Department of Labor. As a result, the judge held that our client is now entitled to receive unemployment benefits and is not responsible for the benefits the Department of Labor construed as overpayment.
Our client was represented by litigation associates Livia Fine and Heather Navo, who were supervised by litigation partner David Brown.
