Paul, Weiss Obtains Unemployment Insurance Benefits for Pro Bono Client
- Client News
- October 23, 2014
Paul, Weiss, through the Volunteers of Legal Service Unemployment Insurance Project, obtained unemployment insurance benefits for a client who was discharged because he allegedly missed a shift even though he was not scheduled to work on that day. Paul, Weiss took direct testimony from our client in a hearing before the New York State Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Section. After the hearing, the ALJ overturned the initial determination of the Department of Labor that our client was terminated for missing work. The ALJ found that our client was entitled to unemployment insurance benefits because the employer was unable to provide sufficient evidence about the alleged absence.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation partner Daniel Toal and associates Lance Polivy and Amy Nemetz.
