Paul, Weiss Achieves Settlement in Civil Rights Case
- Client News
- July 23, 2013
Paul, Weiss obtained a settlement for a client who was intimidated by a corrections officer while an inmate at Fishkill Correctional Facility. The corrections officer allegedly punched him in the face and made threatening and offensive remarks about his kosher observance and his Hispanic heritage. As a result, our client ceased asking for kosher meals, and even went without any meals at all, when that corrections officer was in the cafeteria.
Paul, Weiss conducted discovery, took and defended depositions, located a key witness corroborating our client's claims and prevailed in obtaining a judicial order requiring the production of important Department of Corrections and Community Supervision documents bearing on the case. After negotiations with the New York Attorney General's Office, New York State agreed to pay the client a favorable settlement to settle his claims.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Adam Felsenthal and Luke Flynn-Fitzsimmons. Litigation partner Aidan Synnott supervised the matter.
