Paul, Weiss Achieves Asylum Victory for Iranian Pro Bono Client
On October 21, Paul, Weiss obtained asylum for an Iranian man who fled that country in 2008 and sought asylum in the United States. The client was persecuted, kidnapped and threatened on the basis of his written work and foreign contacts, which attracted the attention of the Ahmedinejad government. His work comprised printed and electronic English-language publications about Iran that had readership within embassies, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Human Rights First referred the case to Paul, Weiss after the client's affirmative application was found not plausible and his original counsel withdrew from the case. Asylum was granted by an immigration judge who ruled that the client had a well-founded fear of persecution and met the requirements for asylum.
The Paul, Weiss team included partner Chuck Davidow.
