Paul, Weiss Achieves Asylum Victory for Client
- Client News
- June 18, 2013
Paul, Weiss obtained asylum for a client, a gay man from El Salvador who endured verbal, physical, and sexual abuse because of his sexual orientation, and received frequent threats against his life while in El Salvador and after escaping to the United States. The client was afraid to report his attacks to the Salvadoran police because of official toleration of abuse against homosexuals. He was detained by Border Patrol when entering Texas and subsequently filed a defensive asylum application. The Immigration Judge granted the application from the bench at a hearing, and made special note of the quality of the documents submitted by Paul, Weiss in support of our client's application.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Christopher Filburn, Jerry Gomez and Alexis Cohen. Litigation partner Andrew Ehrlich supervised the matter.
