Federal Court Grants Pro Bono Client’s Petition for Habeas Corpus
- Client News
- September 28, 2015
Paul, Weiss secured a major victory for a pro bono client when Judge Katharine S. Hayden of the United States District Court of New Jersey granted our client's petition for habeas corpus. The petition challenged the reasonableness of our client's mandatory detention pending immigration proceedings, which Paul, Weiss argued had been in excess of what is permissible under the Due Process Clause. In a rare move, the petition was not contested by the government and was granted without a hearing.
The Paul, Weiss team included litigation partner David Brown, counsel Steven Herzog and associate Angelo Guisado. The representation was in cooperation with Brooklyn Defender Services.
