Daniel Crane Authors Article on DOJ Electronic Book Price Fixing Lawsuit
May 11, 2012
Litigation counsel Daniel A. Crane authored an op-ed article discussing a civil complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division against Apple and seven book publishers, including HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group, Macmillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster. The complaint alleges a conspiracy to raise the prices of e-books. Filed on April 11, the complaint states that the publishers colluded to force Amazon to switch from the wholesale model, where Amazon sets the price of e-books, to an agency model, where the publisher sets the price. The article "DOJ e-Book Price Fixing Lawsuit is Superficial" appeared in the April 23 edition of the legal news and research service, JURIST.
