Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but generally applicants must earn a certain income to qualify and are subject to a resource limit.
Net income is calculated as follows: Net Income = Gross Income – Eligible Deductions. Eligible deductions include earned income deductions, standard deductions, medical deductions, dependent care deduction, child support deduction and shelter deduction. More details regarding eligible deductions can be found HERE. A table outlining gross and net income standards is included HERE.
A resource limit is a limit on the amount of resources a household has. “Resources” include things like checkings and savings accounts, income producing property, and stocks, bonds or mutual funds. If the applicant’s household includes a member that is either 60 years or older or is disabled, the resource limit is $3,500; otherwise the resource limit is $2,250. The resource limit does NOT apply to individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or households who POWER/Tribal TANF.
