Description of Program and Relief
Changes in State Tax Measures in Light of COVID-19
The deadline for filing income tax returns and payment of amounts due has been automatically extended to July 15, 2020 in light of COVID-19. On March 27, 2020, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue announced additional measures, including the following:

Expediting claims for both the Earned Income Tax credit and Homestead credit

Lowering the interest rate from 18% to 12% on unpaid balances on sales and use tax returns due March 31 and April 30, 2020

Allowing installment payment plans for amounts reported on returns but unpaid

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
The income tax payment extension applies to individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, associations, companies or corporations; it is solely for income tax payments and returns due April 15, 2020. The eligibility requirements for the additional measures announced on March 27, 2020 depend on each program.
