Description of Program and Relief

Washington State: Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a health and nutrition program that predates COVID-19, but can be used by eligible participants at this time. WIC helps families with young children or expecting newborns by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, monthly checks for healthy foods, healthcare screening and referrals, and other community services. There are over 200 WIC clinics across Washington State.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Generally, the following people are eligible depending on household size and income:

  • Pregnant women, new and breastfeeding moms, and children under five.

  • Dads, grandparents, and other caregivers of children under the age of five.

  • Foster children under age five and foster teens who are pregnant.

  • Many working families and military families.

  • Individuals who are or have family members who are on Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Basic Food may also be eligible for WIC.
