Description of Program and Relief

Medicaid and FAMIS Co-Payment and Pre-Approval Waivers

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the Department of Medical Assistance Services (“DMAS”) has eliminated co-payments for all services, including COVID-19-related treatment, covered by Medicaid and FAMIS, Virginia’s health insurance program for children. DMAS is also permitting Medicaid members to obtain a 90-day supply of many routine prescriptions. Additionally, DMAS is waiving pre-approval requirements for many critical medical services and is providing automatic extensions for approvals that are already in place.
