Description of Program and Relief
City of Virginia Beach Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Relief Program
The COVID-19 Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Relief Program provides households in the City of Virginia Beach tax relief if an occupant has lost their employment due to COVID-19. Relief is in the form of reimbursement for paid residential real estate and personal property taxes for the assessment period between June 5, 2020 and August 5, 2020, but anyone who meets the below eligibility criteria can apply even if they have not paid their tax bill.
If an applicant is approved, real estate tax relief will be paid in the amount of the billed taxes or up to $500, whichever is lower. Personal property tax relief will be paid in the amount of the billed taxes or up to $250, whichever is lower. Households may apply for both real estate and personal property tax relief but will receive no more than a combined maximum of $750.
