Description of Program and Relief
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Assistance
WIC is a food assistance program for women, infants, and young children. WIC provides money in the form of vouchers to buy healthy foods, and also provides nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals for health care. Note that South Carolina plans to roll out its eWIC program during 2020, which will transition recipients of WIC benefits from paper vouchers to Electronic Benefit Transfer compliant cards.
Most South Carolina WIC clinics are currently still open, however, some WIC clinics are closing temporarily in light of the COVID-19 emergency. WIC clients who have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, or whose family members do, should contact their local WIC office to reschedule any appointments. Certain WIC offices may be able to complete your WIC appointment over the phone.
