Description of Program and Relief

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

South Carolina’s SNAP program provides nutrition assistance for low income households. Recipients of SNAP benefits will be issued an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which they can use to purchase eligible foods. While no specific guidance has been provided for those affected by COVID-19, individuals and families adversely impacted by COVID-19 should be eligible if they meet general eligibility requirements.

To receive SNAP benefits, household income must be under certain monthly limits. There are no resource limits for SNAP in South Carolina. In addition, SNAP recipients aged 18-49 years old, who are Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWDs), and who do not meet a work registration exemption must meet a work requirement by working, participating in a work program, or any combination of working or participating in a work program for 20 hours a week, or averaging 80 hours a month.
