Description of Program and Relief

Free Meal Programs for School Children and Internet Access for Rural Children

In light of school closures, certain facilities have been authorized to serve free school meals to eligible students. Certain School Food Authorities have received waivers authorizing the delivery of up to five days’ worth of food per child at a time.

South Carolina’s Department of Education has authorized buses operated by school districts to be used to deliver meals or to be used as mobile Wi-Fi hotspots in rural and other locations. Many of these mobile Wi-Fi hotspot buses will also serve as “grab and go” meal sites.

A map detailing School Food Sites serving meals is available here: https://www.ed.sc.gov/newsroom/covid-19-coronavirus-and-south-carolina-schools/.
