Description of Program and Relief

Extension of Expiration Dates for Pennsylvania DMV Documents

Driver License Centers and Photo License Centers in Pennsylvania have begun to reopen following the closure of all centers in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the disruption, Pennsylvania is extending the expiration date of driver licenses, learner’s permits, and ID cards with expiration dates between March 16 and July 31, 2020. The new expiration date for those materials will be July 31, 2020. Identical extensions apply for vehicle registrations, safety inspections, emissions inspections, and disability parking permits due to expire between March 16 and July 31, 2020.

Dates Available

For documents that expire between now and March 31, 2020, effective now through July 31, 2020.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

This program affects only those individuals for whom one of the following documents is scheduled to expire between March 16 and July 31, 2020:

  • Driver license

  • Learner’s permit

  • DMV-issued photo ID card

  • Vehicle registration

  • Vehicle safety inspection

  • Vehicle emissions inspection

  • Disabilities parking placard

  • Note, however, that the extension does not apply to Commercial Driver License Medical Examiner's Certificates (MECs).
