Description of Program and Relief
Childcare for First Responders, Health Care Workers, and Other Essential Employees
New Mexico’s Children, Youth, and Families Department has expanded its existing Childcare Assistance Program to cover the total cost of full-time childcare assistance for first responders, healthcare providers, and other essential workers who need childcare in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Childcare Assistance Program will now directly pay the cost of child-care services for these workers, as well as continue to pay child-care services for the low-income families previously eligible under the Childcare Assistance Program. Low-income families are families that are at or below 200% of the poverty level that are working and/or in school and have a need for child care.
