Description of Program and Relief

Moratorium on Residential Evictions and Foreclosures Statewide

All residential eviction and foreclosure proceedings are suspended in the State of New Jersey until further notice.

This moratorium also applies to hotel and motel guests who have no permanent housing to which they may safely or lawfully return. Municipalities and counties also may not impose restrictions in response to COVID-19 on the ability of hotels, motels, guest houses, or private residences to accept any individuals who have no permanent housing.

This moratorium does not relieve a renter of his or her obligations to pay rent or otherwise comply with the terms of his or her lease.
