Description of Program and Relief

Automatic Extension for Housing Search Period Associated with Housing Choice Vouchers to 120 Days

New Jersey’s Housing Choice Voucher Program provides funding to assist low-income families in the private rental market. As part of the program, participants are required to satisfy the program’s requirements by securing housing for which they are eligible under the program within 60 days of receiving their initial voucher. This period is known as the housing search period. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has automatically extended the housing search period for all initial voucher holders to 120 as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.
