Description of Program and Relief

Extensions of Certification and Continuing Education Deadlines for EMTs, Paramedics, and First Responders

Extensions of Expiration Deadlines for Certifications. First responder refresher training credentials, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certificates of completion, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates of completion that are or have expired since February 1, 2020, will be deemed valid through July 1, 2020.

Extensions of EMT and Paramedic Certifications. EMT and paramedic certifications that were set to expire in 2020 are extended at least to June 20, 2020.

Extension of Time for EMTs and Paramedics to Obtain Certifications. Candidates for a Massachusetts certification as EMTs or paramedics will have two years from the official course end date to obtain their National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) certifications.

Removing Limits on Distributive Education for Continuing Education Requirements. Until June 30, 2020, EMTs with certifications expiring in 2020 may complete all their remaining continuing education requirements through distributive education (e.g., self-paced courses offered on the internet, videos, or audio tapes).
