Description of Program and Relief

Expanding Wireless Broadband Hubs in Unserved Communities

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) and KCST USA Inc. are actively working with local internet service providers (ISPs) to offer new Wifi hotspots to unserved municipalities that lack broadband access.

  • These new access points build off of the State-owned fiber-optic network.

  • Each unserved communities is being offered a temporary 250 Mbps wireless hotspot, which will allow them to increase wireless broadband access for residents impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.

  • ISPs that participate in this program must offer the service free of any monthly charge to an eligible community, which will be offered until September 1, 2020.

A list of the active hotspots may be found here. Some ISPs and communities recently launched additional hotspots that are not part of this program. MBI is tracking these hotspots and including them on the list as well.
