Description of Program and Relief

Expanding Authority to Administer Certain Medication and Oxygen in Community Programs

The Medication Administration Program (MAP) is intended to ensure the safe and secure administration of medication to individuals living in certain community residential and day programs.

In response to the potential shortage of MAP staff who are certified to administer rescue inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and oxygen to individuals in community residential and day programs—and to avoid unnecessary emergency department visits—the Department of Health has ordered that non-MAP certified staff in community residential and day programs may now administer them pursuant to existing patient prescriptions and administration orders.

This order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until rescinded or until the Governor’s declared State of Emergency is terminated.
