Description of Program and Relief

Anti-Price Gouging Measures

The Office of the Attorney General issued an emergency regulation to prohibit price gouging of essential products and services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The emergency regulation amends 940 C.M.R. 3:18 and provides that it shall be an unfair and deceptive act or practice under the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, M.G.L. c. 93A, for any business at any point in the chain of distribution or manufacture, during any declared statewide or national emergency, to sell or offer to sell to any consumer or to any other business any goods or services necessary for the health, safety, or welfare of the public for an amount that represents an “unconscionably high price.”

The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division encourages members of the public to call 617-727-8400 or file a complaint online here about unreasonably high prices of consumer goods during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
