Description of Program and Relief

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

TANF provides temporary financial assistance for women who are pregnant and for families with one or more dependent children. This financial assistance can help pay for food, shelter, utilities, and expenses other than medical expenses. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below).

Generally, to be eligible, a family must have a dependent child or pregnancy, and must meet specific nonfinancial and financial criteria (outlined at the website above), including income limits as well as citizenship and residency requirements.
