Description of Program and Relief

KanCare – Children’s Health Insurance Program (“CHIP”)

CHIP provides low-cost health care coverage for uninsured children in low-income families whose incomes exceed Medicaid limits. Although there is no specific provision related to COVID-19, individuals and families may be eligible if they meet the eligibility requirements below.

To be eligible for CHIP, an applicant must (i) be a resident of Kansas, (ii) be under 19 years of age or a primary care giver with a child under the age of 19, (iii) not be covered by health insurance (including Medicaid), (iv) be a U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident; and (v) have family income under 232% of the federal poverty level.
