Description of Program and Relief
Temporary Suspension of Most Residential Evictions and Property Tax Penalties and Interest
On March 20, 2020, the Governor of Iowa temporarily suspended the authority of landlords to terminate rental agreements and to evict tenants except where a tenant is accused of forcible entry and detainer where the tenant has by force, intimidation, fraud, or stealth entered upon the prior actual possession of another in real property and detains the same, or any other emergency circumstance allowed by law. This suspension applies only to residential properties, not commercial properties. The Governor also temporarily suspended property tax penalties and interest payments.
