Description of Program and Relief

Order Extending Winter Moratorium on Disconnections for Electric and Natural Gas Customers

The Iowa Utilities Board issued an emergency order directing all electric and natural gas utilities in the state to cease disconnection of residential service due to nonpayment for residents who qualify for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The extended moratorium period will continue until May 1, 2020.

November 1, 2019 to May 1, 2020.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Any resident who has been certified by the local community action agency as qualifying for either LIHEAP or the Weatherization Assistance Program (“WAP”).

Application Deadlines (If Applicable)

Iowa residents may apply for financial assistance through LIHEAP. The application period for heating assistance has been extended from April 30, 2020 to May 31, 2020.
