Description of Program and Relief
Extension of Deadlines for Permit to Carry and Acquire a Firearm
On March 20, 2020, the Governor of Iowa temporarily suspended expiration deadlines for professional and nonprofessional permits to carry and permits to acquire pistols or revolvers. The Governor also suspended regulations requiring personal delivery of applications for permits to acquire pistols or revolvers and directed each sheriff’s office to formulate and implement a procedure for accepting applications for permits to acquire pistols or revolvers and applications for permits to carry weapons that include in-person drop-off without in-person interactions, acceptance by mail, or electronic applications.
