Description of Program and Relief

Childcare Assistance

The Iowa Department of Human Services assists income-eligible parents in need of childcare throughout the state. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below).

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Applicants must have a child who needs care and is under the age of 13 (or 19 if the child has special needs) and must be a member of the Family Investment Program (“FIP”). If an applicant is not a member of FIP, the applicant must have a child who needs care who is under the age of 13 (or under the age of 19 if the child has special needs), have income under the program's limits and work an average of 28 hours per week; or attend an approvable training or education program full-time; or attend approvable training part-time and also work part-time for a total of at least 28 hours per week; or are looking for work; or become unable to work or attend school because of an approved medical reason.
