Description of Program and Relief
Unemployment Insurance
Unemployed workers affected by COVID-19 may be eligible for benefits under already-existing Indiana unemployment insurance, which provides temporary income for workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are either looking for new jobs, in approved training, or awaiting recall to employment.
Per Executive Order 20-05, Indiana will interpret its unemployment laws to the broadest extent possible to cover Hoosiers who are out of work because of COVID-19. It will also allow individuals to continue to accrue unemployment eligibility if they take work leave because of COVID-19, and, for employers, DWD will not assess certain experience rate penalties because of employees who receive unemployment benefits because of COVID-19.
