Family Leave Law

Description of Program and Relief

Hawaii’s existing Family Leave Law program provides 4 workweeks of leave to take care of a family member because of a serious health condition, which the DLIR has stated may include illness or quarantine associated with COVID-19.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Leave under this law may be taken by an eligible employee affected by COVID-19 in order to care for the spouse, reciprocal beneficiary, child or parent of the employee, if such spouse, son, daughter or parent has a serious health condition.

The employee must have been employed by the employer for 6 consecutive months and the employer must have at least 100 employees.
